Dear Subhadra,

This month's newsletter offers strategies to manage information overload from emails, telephone and other distractions that keep us from focusing on our work. This is the first in a series of articles on work-life balance we will include in each newsletter along with new candidate profiles for your review.

This month, I've had the pleasure of working with 5 terrific women who care about their careers and are looking to strike a balance between work and home. Our newest candidates have been carefully pre-screened and added to our database of high-caliber candidates seeking flexible work environments.

We are continually adding to our database of candidates, so please check back often as your hiring needs change. As always, we welcome your comments and suggestions.

Best Regards,

Managing Information Overload to Increase Productivity

As we all struggle to keep up with our work in an increasingly busy workplace, many of us get hundreds of emails a week. So how do you manage "information overload"?

An article that I read last year on Boston.com entitled "Creativity can thrive, if you keep the email in check", deals with this difficult issue. The article suggests that daily interruptions affect productivity, focus and health. The article got me thinking that something as simple as establishing meeting/email free zones for non-essential items could help employees tackle workload and help achieve work/life balance.

Over the past year I've had many conversations with friends and family about whether or not this is a realistic tool.  What I've found is that many people informally designate an email/meeting free period once a week, usually on Friday afternoons.

What are your thoughts on this strategy? Do you think designating an email/meeting free period is an effective and simple tool to help employees achieve better productivity, health and work/life balance?

About ThinkFlex

SubhadraMy name is Subhadra England, and like the candidates I help place, I was a professional woman who needed a flexible work solution. With 13 years of work experience in the investment industry, I became a stay-at-home mother for almost three years. Within the first few months of being home, I was amazed by the significant source of talent and work experience possessed by other stay-at-home mothers.

Through my interactions with mothers in and out of the workplace and my own market research, I determined that:
  • Both stay-at-home mothers and mothers in the workplace want to achieve work/life balance and need help locating employers that provide flexibility.
  • Progressive employers are becoming more flexible to attract and retain the best talent.
  • Demographic trends and market conditions are changing the way we work.
We all strive for work/life balance, and so, focusing on mothers is just phase one of our business plan. In the near future, we will extend our reach to other segments of the market.

Call me today at 617.838.6820 to discuss your hiring needs or send me an email. I look forward to serving your recruiting needs.

Sincerely,

Subhadra England
